Baby is severely burned at a Florida daycare
A 10-month-old baby burned at daycare has been hospitalized for over a month since the incident. His family seeks justice.

At just 10 months old, little Giancarlo is struggling to recover from the second and third degree burns he suffered in a daycare center in Melbourne, Florida.
The baby remains in the Gainesville burn unit with the right side of his body bandaged.
His condition is stable, but his recovery will be lengthy and his parents still do not know if he will suffer long-term effects.

What happened to baby Giancarlo?

Giancarlo’s parents, Eileen Martin Hidalgo and Julio Ramis, received the heartbreaking news in a phone call on February 16, 2024.
«Giancarlo was severely injured at the daycare he was attending,» explains his aunt, Raisa Martin Hidalgo, on GoFundMe.
She added that he «suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns from hot boiling water which burn 30% of his right side of his body.»
The little boy was treated immediately, but his condition required specialized care.
10-month-old baby burned at daycare

Medical personnel airlifted him to Gainesville, more than 100 miles away from his home.
His family still can’t believe what happened and continue to search for an explanation. Still, they cannot find a way to justify what happened.
The Melbourne Police Department report states that what happened was an accident.
In the report says that the baby was sitting in a high chair near a bottle warmer when he reached out and poured hot water over his body.
Giancarlo has extensive burns

Apparently, the teachers did not realize the danger and were not paying attention to Giancarlo because they were caring for other children.
The incident remains under investigation, with staff from the Florida Department of Children and Families taking over.
Giancarlo’s family has focused on the little boy’s recovery and to date have not pressed charges against the daycare.
Raisa Martin Hidalgo says on GoFundMe that the family is still «in a state of shock.»
Eileen Martin-Hidalgo and her family are asking for help

«[E]verything has stopped that day and had to do every in their power that Giancarlo is getting the proper care he needs,» Raisa wrote on GoFundMe.
She added that the family’s life is on pause as they care for him. He will likely have to spend another six or eight months in the hospital.
The incident has turned all of their lives upside down.
She add on the GoFundMe campaign that Giancarlo’s parents have had to take time off of work to care for him.
Giancarlo is getting better

«[E]xpenses and bills are going to pile up soon for the Ramis family since doctors have said that his hospitalization can stay up to 6 months to a year due to Giancarlo injuries,» Raise Martín Hidalgo wrote.
Giancarlo remains bandaged, with a tube in his nose and has undergone a series of surgeries since he was admitted to the burn unit a month ago.
«Giancarlo is doing good, he’s been in surgery every week since his arrival to the children hospital, he showing signs of being happy again smiling at the staff and to mom and dad,» his aunt shared in an. update.
His parents celebrate his progress, although they remain afraid that Giancarlo will never be the same again.
